AO3 alignment quiz (reader edition)
How do you usually comment on fics?
I usually say something I like about the fic, compliment the author, or ask a thoughtful question.
I leave an emoji or two. Or I say, "I loved this!"
I ask the author what ship is endgame.
I comment if I think the author tagged incorrectly!! I have to let them know. Sometimes I give them feedback about how they should continue the fic.
I ask them for updates!!!
How frequently do you comment on a fic?
I comment on every fic I read. Sometimes just a long comment on the final chapter, but if it's a WIP I enjoy, every chapter I'll try and leave something!
At the very end I'll leave a comment.
Randomly. It depends on how horny/upset I am with what happened to the characters. I'm nice about it though!
I never comment.
I am more likely to comment on a less hyped up story than a more hyped up story
How do you use the ao3 bookmark fun ction?
I bookmark publicly usually, sometimes with comments about why I liked the fic.
I private bookmark only
I bookmark with the summary of the fic (in case the author deletes it). Sometimes I'll bookmark with what chapter I'm on.
I bookmark with my honest commentary. If I didn't enjoy the fic, I'll make a note of that publicly.
I never bookmark
How OFTEN do use the bookmark fun ction?
Only when I've finished the fic. l like to be well organized and consistent.
I private bookmark only or never use bookmarks
What is a bookmark? My chrome history is a bookmark, I use that.
I sometimes go on a bookmarking spree, but then I forget to finish my bookmarks.
I use bookmarks a lot, for anything I enjoy including ongoing fic. I rarely clean them up.
How do you use the subscribe function on ao3?
I subscribe when it's a wip, when I finish, I unsubscribe and move to bookmarks if I liked it.
I never subscribe to authors or fics
I subscribe to anything I like, but then I forget I'm subscribed and never delete the subscription.
I subscribe instead of using bookmarks because it allows me to not put my name on something of low or questionable quality
I only subscribe to authors not fics
How do you choose to kudos fic?
I kudos a fic if I read the first chapter. Internet points are free!
I don't have an ao3 account so I never kudos, or I leave guest kudos.
I only kudos at the end of a wip—I want to make sure the fic is good first.
After a thorough background check of their other fic and social media accounts.
I kudos the first chapter in a WIP but ONLY if I liked the fic
I kudos only when I complete a fic. My kudos indicates when I'm done with something.
How do you use the mark-for-later function on ao3?
I mark things for later if I haven't read them yet.
I know about mark for later, but I only use bookmarks or subscriptions.
There's a mark for later function? What's that?
I use some combination of open tabs, chrome history and bookmarks instead of the built in ao3 functions.
Sometimes I mark things for later even when I've read the fic—what? I wanna read it again!
Do you have ao3 account
Yes
Nope, guest only
Yes, I have multiple. I get a new one every time I change fandoms.
Yes, and I have multiple pseudonyms for my different fandoms and/or for NSFW content.
An author you follow makes a fairly important spelling/grammatical error in their latest chapter update you...
Send them a long comment about everything you liked in the fic, and at then end tell them about the error
Do nothing—it's none of your business really, and you liked the chapter.
You don't usually comment, but you tell them about the error immediately so they can fix it.
Do nothing, you don't have an account anyway
Do nothing, it's their problem not yours.
You already forgot about the spelling error because that last scene was hot as helllllll
I dm them. If I can't, I say nothing
How do you find your next fanfic read?
I sort by date published within a trope or ship
I sort by kudos
I go to author bookmarks
I use twitter or tiktok
I do some combination of these things. It's totally random.
You get a subscription email for a fic you're following in your inbox, you...
What subscription emails? I never subscribe
Damn... I can't remember who this author is...if I subscribed I probably liked them?
My email has 100000000 unread, so I probably don't see this.
I read it immediately I'm so excitteedddd!
I look first to see if I have any other subscriptions I need to read that were published earlier, I like to go in order
I read it when I have a chance, but if I don't immediately I may forget for awhile
Do you keep track of your reading for the year?
Yes, I have a complex spreadsheet that's color coded and uses formulas
No, lol. Isn't that what ao3 history is for?
Yeah, in my public bookmarks where I rate the fic
Yeah, in my private bookmarks where I rate the fic
I use someone else's spreadsheet that they made, and sometimes my notes app or something like it. It's a bit random though.
I have a twitter thread where I put elaborate moodboards of my recs
How do you feel when people sort by kudos descending?
That's the best way to do it
I undersand why people do it, but they should try to spread the love to smaller works
Who cares, they can do what they want
I've never thought about it before
I actually really hate when people hype big name authors and try to get people to realize they are overhyped
What types of long fics do you read?
Completed fics only, I've been hurt before.
WIPs and completed fics.
I'll try a WIP once and while, but only from a friend or trusted author. Usually completed fics
I don't check for completeness or date published. I've read a fic that's 19/20 and 200k. Look.
I don't read long fics :P
