You are coaching two quads on a warm day. One of the quads capsizes. What do you do? (select all correct answers)
Account for all rowers.
Determine if anyone is hurt.

Drive the coaches' launch to the nearest emergency landing.
Have the rowers get the boat back onto its hull while being careful not to get hit by the oars.
Tell the rowers to stay with the capsized boat while you go get help.
Have the rowers attempt to get back into the boat one at a time. If that's not possible, assist them onto the launch and, if possible, have them get back into the boat.
Before you go out, how many personal floatation devices should you have?

Always have your boats row side by side.
Row in the middle of the lake for maximum visibility.
Always row on port shore, and allow boats to pass on starboard.

What should you do should you expect a rower is suffering from hypothermia (check all that apply).
Move gently to a warm, dry shelter as soon as possible.
Give them coffee.
Remove wet clothes, hats, socks, etc. And dress in dry clothes.
Cover with a blanket.
Call 9-1-1 if the rower is no longer shivering.
You are with a group of boats and a motorboat is approaching directly toward you. What should you do?
Nothing, as the rowers have the right of way and any deviations will confuse the motorboat.
Have the rowers pass the motorboat boat on the port side.
Position your launch in front of the rowers and signal to the motorboat that they are approaching rowers.
Call 9-1-1
Where are the first aid kits at CYC?
In the storage closet in the boathouse.
On the coaches' launches
In the clubhouse.
At the front of the boathouse.
How close should the boats you're supervising be to your launch?
No more than 1,000 meters.
As close as possible, but no more distance than you can clearly see them.
Close enough that they can hear the siren on your megaphone.
Within the same cove that you're in.
Prior to practice, the forecast was for a sunny day with low winds. The team has just launched, and you notice dark clouds forming. What should you do (check all that apply)?
Proceed with practice, as the forecast is clear.
Recheck the forecast to see if anything has changed. Get back to the boathouse if a storm is imminent.
If the forecast is still clear, keep your boats reasonably close to the boathouse.
If you have small boats (singles, doubles, pairs), keep them in the cove where CYC is located.
You are coaching two fours. One boat is significantly faster than the other. What can you do (check all that apply)?
Stay with the slower boat, as the rowers in the faster boat are more experienced.
Have the faster boat do its pieces at a lower stroke rating.
Start the slower boat ahead of the faster boat in a way that allows you to keep them both clearly in sight.
Have the faster boat add in pauses.
On days when it's possible, shorten the pieces to allow the boats to stay together.
In extreme cases, contact Coach Katie to see if a swap can be arranged.
Have the faster boat row by pairs for some pieces.
If a rower ends up in the water and needs to be rescued, what options do you have (check all that apply)?
Toss the rower a floatation device from the launch.
Approach the rower (head on) with the launch, idling the last 3-4 feet, and let them grab onto the launch.
Tie your mooring line to a cleat on the boat deck and throw the line to the rower.
If you have an extra person on the boat, approach the rower slowly and use the paddle to reach out to the rower (while making sure the person on deck is secure on the deck).
