The best way to describe fast paced music is music that has a fairly fast speed, is upbeat, and has a prominent beat and/or musical instruments in the background.

A lot of hip hop and electronic music would fall into this category. Hard rock, such as Boston, ACDC, and Guns n Roses would fall into this category as well.

Hard Rock is typically fast, has aggresive vocals, and has high powered instruments playing in the background. Examples of hard rock groups are Skillet, ACDC, and Guns N Roses. If you like songs like Highway to Hell, Welcome to The Jungle, or Kickstart my Heart, then you enjoy hard rock.

Soft Rock in contrast has instruments and vocals that are not as aggresive and the background music is more mellow sounding and less high powered. Examples of bands with a lot of soft rock are Coldplay. Paradise and Yellow by Coldplay are examples of soft rock songs.
