Science Study Quiz

Describe the steps of the scientific method
1. Make an observation/Do research-make observations and do research of your topic 2. Ask a question-develop a question that can be solved through experimentation 3. Make a hypothesis-predict a possible answer to the problem or question(an if….then statement) 4. Conduct an experiment-develop and follow a procedure. The outcome must be measureable 5. Analyze your data-modify the procedure if needed. Confirm the results by retesting 6. Draw conclusions-include a statement that accepts or rejects the hypothesis. It should answer the hypothesis 7. Report findings-be prepared to present the project to an audience
Intrusive Rocks
Banana
Limestone
Write a testable hypothesis
If sugar is purple, I like apples
If I increase the heat, then the pasta will boil faster
If you are a gorilla, you like bananas
Dog
Define and identify the independent variable, dependent variable, and the control group.
Cat
IV=the heat ; DV=if the pasta will boil faster Independent Variable-the independent or manipulated variable is a factor that is intentionally varied by the experimenter Dependent Variable-the change that happens as a result of the independent variable Control-an aspect of the experiment that stays the same; it is the standard by which you compare the results to after changing the independent variable
Sugar
Smelting
Explain the branches of Earth Science
Winter, Summer, Spring, Fall
Geologist-The study of the solid earth and the forces that shapes it Oceanography-The study of oceans from the chemistry of the water to shape the ocean floor to the things living in it Meteorology-The study of Earth’s atmosphere Astronomy-The study of the universe beyond the earth Environmental Scientist-The study of Earth’s environment and resources
Crystallization
Luster
Describe the different Earth sphere's and how they interact
North, south, west, east
Metamorphic rocks
Circle
Lithosphere-Earth’s solid rock outer layer. Biosphere-All the life on the Earth. (all living things) Hydrosphere-All the water on the Earth. Atmosphere- The outermost sphere. It is the mixture of gases that surrounds the planet. The biosphere interacts with the hydrosphere because the biosphere needs water to live and the hydrosphere provides water.
