What Kind of a Parent Are You

On a Friday morning, I like to wake up and

When my kids make a mess

I encourage them to clean it up as I sing versions of Barney clean up songs

Sit in a corner and bite my nails to overcome my overwhelming need to keep things neat

Carry on with a smile, they're kids after all, they make messes- it'll get cleaned up later

Clean it up myself as they play, better I do it now myself than never

We have a strict "no mess- making" policy with a list of predetermined mess-free activities

Our family weekends consist of

Carefully planned activities, meals and social arrangements with a start and end time for everything

Waking up and going with the flow, wherever our mood takes us

Picking up and dropping off the kids at birthdays and extra curricular activities with a quick family meal in between

Spending every possible minute outside

At the mall

Bed-time is

A breeze- bathed, brushed and read by 7:30 with ample 'me-time' hours to spare

Theoretically structured with the occasional runner

Anytime before the sun comes up

A high-stake battlefield to beat the clock

When we all decide to sleep

When I get an afternoon off from parenting, I spend my time

With my feet up in front of the TV or a good book

Catching up on piled up work or crossing off items from my household to-do list

Getting pampered

Hitting the gym

Getting social
