ZAMBOANGA CITY - Two Philippine Navy personnel were killed when the motorcycle they are riding collided head-on with a Mitsubishi Montero along the national highway in front of the barangay hall of Recudo, Zamboanga City at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Zamboanga City police investigators identified the driver of the motorcyle as Engineman 3rd Class Arnulfo Vasquez, 35, of Dapitan City.
The name of the other victim is still withheld as his relatives are yet to be informed of the incident.
The two Navy personnel are both assigned at Naval Installation Facility-Western Mindanao.
Investigation revealed that the victims were heading back to the base after a COMREL mission in Barangay Ayala when a black Mitsubishi Montero, bearing with plate number NAA7562 and driven by a certain Arcanghel Baldemor, a businessman, made a counterflow and collided head-on with the said motorcyle. The two riders were flown away and fell into the concrete fence of the Recudo covered court within the compound of the barangay hall.
The victims were declared dead of arrival by the Western Mindanao Medical Center while Baldemor were held in custody by the Zamboanga City Police.
"The Command is working on with notifying the family and relatives of the other victim so that appropriate assistance can be given as he is from Marilao, Bulacan," said Lt. Arvin Macalang, the NFWM public affairs officer.
