Can You Guess The Classic Book From Its 1-Star Goodreads Review?

 I don't get it! What's to like? The story centres around a completely unlikable twit and a stone cold bitch.

I did not think that the ending needed to be so sad and deadly. It was a tragedy so I do realize that people needed to die, but I did not think it had to be quite that bad.

First I would like to point out that the length of this was extremely long and very unnecessary, it just does not make sense to me for someone to make such a simple story into a whole book.

With all due respect to [this book’s] place in history, this book would not have gotten past the publishing stage today. It was poorly written and it was not funny.

No wonder people hate feminists! If this is what passes for feminist fare, then I don't want to be one anymore.

Despite the archaic language, the plot is quite clear, but with little other than dialogue it's very plain and unengaging. Most of the characters are one-dimensional and there are far too many of them.

It was kinda difficult to read the book because of the language and the long sentences. The sentences was way too long, they could have been shorter I think.

I believe our teenage children can understand that terrible things like this happen, without needing to be dragged through the muck of the sordid details. My son does not want those images in his head, and I fully support him. In my son’s English class, there are only two main texts, and this is one of them. How sad, when there are so many other great literary works to choose from which are clean.

Yet another French novel about a man who should know better making a fool of himself.
