It was the only school that accepted her. To be fair she applied to only 2 schools, and due to how Texas colleges work and since she was a Texas resident, since she wasn't in the top 10% of her graduating HS class she didn't get auto admitted into UT Austin, thus getting into UT was more difficult to get into than Harvard

The University of Houston offered her a full-tuition scholarship and she didn't care about going out of state or elsewhere

Her mom is an alum of the University of Houston and she wanted to stay somewhat close to family

Everyone she knew was going to the University of Houston and she didn't want to go somewhere all alone were she knew no one and would have to talk to new people

Remedial Jaq: What was the main reason that tanked her HS GPA?

She didn't do her homework in calculus and barely passed the class with a 72

Physics made no damn sense and she had to copy her smarter friends homeworks and had to wing it on the quizzes/tests

Career Jaq: When did Jaq first have any interest in having any sort of legal career?

In high school when she realized the only class she liked was government

In 2nd grade when some lady was talking at a career day and mentioned that federal judges have their jobs for life

In college when she took the introductory political science course and realized that she wanted to change her major to political science

In middle school when she took one of those career assessment quizzes and it suggested "researcher, paralegal, executive assistant" since she indicated that she like to problem solve but didn't like having direct client facing responsibilities

When she binged watched the entirety of law and order one summer and thought, "hey maybe I should be a lawyer"

When Jaq didn't know what she wanted to do in highschool so her parents gave lawyer as a suggestion after she shot down anything to do with math, engineering, medicine

Did Other Schools do this: What is not something Jaq did as part of school activities?

Attend a 3 day "Constitutional Convention" where the entire 8th grade class were assigned to be specific delegates from each state, they all dressed up as them, and didn't do anything for 3 days but participate in a mock contitutional convention where they proposed stuff and voted. Jaq was a delegate from Pennsylvania who has a large voting bloc and power

Once every week in 3rd grade, class would shut down and all the students would bring goods or provide services in a mini business market to sell for fake money. This fake money could be used to purchase other student's good/services (like pet rocks people made or scarves they knitted) or could be used at the auction. Her classmate Paxton was accused of stealing someone's money and a fake mock trial was held. Jaq was selected as a juror. They voted him guilty. He was banned from participating in the market for the rest of the year.

In elementary school, the entire 3rd grade shut down for a day to set up a mock "Ellis Island." Everyone was assigned an identity. Jaq was a 22 year old seamstress from Poland. She could only talk to other polish immigrants. You had to go room to room and pass certain assessments. If you coughed ('i.e. Were sick) or got caught cheating or whatever you got deported where you could have to write an essay lol

In middle school, her history class got divided into the different european powers and had to strategically make trade decisions and take over the classmates that were assigned to the colonies. Jaq was a part of Portugal and her group got into a trade war with Spain. A chart was kept on the whiteboard showing the territorial leaderboard of which country controlled more
