Diffusion is the movement of molecules from an area of high concentration to a low concetration down a concentration gradient

What is osmosis?

Osmosis is the movement of water molecules from a high water concentration to a low water concentration down a concentration gradient through a selectively permeable membrane it is a passive process which does not require energy

What is a selectively permeable membrane?

A selectively permeable membrans only allows small molecules through but not large molecules

What happenes to a nomal red blood cell when immersed in pure water?

Water passes in from HWC to LWC and cell bursts

What happens to a normal red blood cell when immersed in 0.85% salt solution?

No net gain or loss of water and cell remains unchanged
