I would prefer the Facebook group to be participant-only.

I would prefer 2 separate groups: 1 with everyone and 1 for participants only.

What purpose do you want the Facebook group to have? Ex: to share articles, start a book club, continuous discussion on different happenings/trends/topics, etc.

Would you like K-Love to explore the idea of a "Class Cabinet?" This may give some people more responsibility within the group if a specific need/interest area emerges.
