The intention of script was to actually to provide equitable settlement of Métis but what was devised was a system that never got lands in the hands of métis. The system left the métis doomed from the start.

When the métis script system was first implemented, the value of the script provided to the métis was either 160 acres of land or $160 cash to be used for the purchase of land.
Their offspring became known as métis people of mixed blood. They developed a proud culture, with elements of both people from who they descended.
