Following the results of the Cranfield university lethality review, it indicated that there is no penetration gain from going up 2 shots sizes. Therefore, going up one shot size and having a denser pattern would be advisable.

Data from Denmark shows that there are no greater amount of broken teeth due to consuming birds shot with steel, equally following good game handling process as per the Swedish National Food Agency Report - For game taken with shot, remove any meat that is visibly affected or bloodshot. This meat should be discarded and remove any visible shot from the meat.

As per the CIP proof authority, guns can use up to half choke for HP steel smaller than 4.1mm.  Testing has shown that going greater than half choke has not proven to be beneficial - The CIP does not give guidance on chokes for standard performance steel.
