How big is your garden?

All pets need a place to run and play. Dogs, in particular, need a safe outdoor space. Many cats also enjoy going outside.  Rabbits and guinea pigs need a large cage or a garden to be happy and healthy.

I don't have a garden or balcony.
I have a small balcony at my flat.
There is a big place to exercise animals at my estate.
Are you active?

Dogs enjoy regular walks. They like running freely in safe places. Some dogs need even more exercise. This depends on their age, breed and health. All pets enjoy games and playing with toys to keep them active. It is easy to do this inside your flat with small pets.

I'm not very active and don't really spend much time outdoors.

I love long walks all year round.
How much time can you spend with your pet?

Pets like being with people. It's really important that some pets, in particular dogs, aren't left alone for more than four hours, because they can become lonely and anxious. Walks, training, play time, feeding, cleaning their home and equipment and visits to the vet all take time.

How much can you spend on your new pet?

You have to buy the pet, but that is not all the money you have to spend. You may also have to pay for food, equipment, toys, pet insurance or unexpected vet bills.  Older animals become even more expensive because they can get sick.

My family can spend $250 - $500 every month.

How much do you know about the pet that you want?

You should read about the pet you want, e.g. You should find out what is important about the type of dog you want. Does it require a lot of food, exercise, a haircut etc? Make sure you know what your pet would need to be healthy and happy.

I don't know much about the pet I want, and I have never had a pet before.
I've done lots of research but I've never owned the pet I like.
