When another old cave is discovered in the south of France, it is not
usually news. Rather, it is such an ordinary event that discoveries are so frequent
these days that hardly anybody pays heed to them. However, when the Lascaux
cave complex was discovered in 1940, the whole world was amazed. A very
great number of civilizational creations on its walls were hundreds of scenes
showing how people lived thousands of years ago. The scenes show people
hunting animals, such as bison or wild cats. Other images depict birds and, most
noticeably, horses, which appear in more than 300 wall images, by far outnumbering
all other animals.
Early artists drawing these people’s lifestyles and animals accomplished a
difficult-but-monumental task. They did not limit themselves to the easily accessible

For Chen, who had been with the same company for a decade when he

quit in 2011, it was time for a change, he said. His original plan was to find a

new job, but the idea of taking time off — inspired by a TED talk — got him

seriously thinking about a sabbatical. At first, he said he was concerned that time

away from the industry might hurt his career.

“That’s the main reason that keeps people from doing this, and I was no

different,” he said in an email. “But you have to create the urgency for living

the life you want.”

After quitting, Chen did look for another job — until a family friend

mentioned that a small island in Arctic Norway was looking for a teacher. Chen’s

wife, who was born in Norway, wanted to go back to work after being at home

with their kids for five years. “She called and basically got the job,” said Chen.

“So, very quickly, we decided that was it.”

Tea had a reputation for being both safe and almost always beneficial.

However, scientists are now suggesting that tea may not be as safe as we had

More seriously, there is a link between tea and miscarriages, and pregnant women

are advised to reduce their intake of tea until after their baby is born. Due to

its critical side effects, some people who like tea choose to be safer and drink

a beverage from which the caffeine has been removed, decaffeinated tea, but

many claim that it simply doesn’t taste right. The reasonable thing to do is probably

moderation; continue to enjoy a cup of tea, but don’t have too many!
