π§π§ β‘ The Magic Begins β‘ π§π§
It was our first anniversary and, so far that she was the addicted one for this kind of celebrations, I wanted her not to be able to organize anything “special”. I had to work, I told her in advance, I had a gala meeting as secretary of my football team. She was upset of course, so I managed to ask a +1 invitation. When we met she was upset (not to mention the whole period since the moment I told her till the anniversary), but when we arrived at the theater, she realized nothing was true as I got her to the premiere of Harry Potter in concert in the most famous theatre in Rome. (Of course since that moment she didn’t believe a single word of mine)

ππ A Hospitalized Loverππ
We broke up around a week before Valentine's Day and went our separate ways. Shortly after that I was back in our own country where I had a car accident. I had to remain in hospital for 2 months - just in time to do some official business we still had together there so it was planned that meet there.
I spend a month on rehabilitation and discreetly asking our common friends to know exactly what my ex is planning on the days before our scheduled meeting. I managed to get out of hospital 3 days earlier, I bought tickets to the same concert and flew back to The Netherlands to show how much I love him. We traveled to our home country to handle the aforementioned business together.
On the same flight of course.

β¨A Suprising Starβ¨β¨
My partner put up our little cozy tent (those for children from Xenos) in the livingroom and put cozy colorful lights on all around it with candles. Blankets and pillows made it even more comfi on the ground and we had a few little snacks and the laptop ready with some comedy to watch.
Then a big red glittery shiny envelop popped up and I opened it will full excitement of what would be hidden in it. A certificate appeared, stating that I am owning a star in the universe now named after me! Wooow, my very own star I can glazed at when night falls. Another paper stated how to download the app and find my star and to see where its exact location is.
Now, how romantic is that :)?

π¦π¦There is a Package for youπ¦π¦
My girlfriend lived in another city, 2,5 hours away for her study and due to the increased distance between us and an activity I organized at work for the 14th we had no plans for Valentines day. She thought..
I decided to surprise her with a visit the night before. I suited up and literally delivered myself on her doorstep as a big Bol.com package - with ofcourse flowers, a nice drink and chocolate!

It was a huge success! The morning after we held our Valentines breakfast in the city center.

πππ± A Smelly Secret Surprise πππ±
We were still young and free and we were studying in 2 different cities. We were able to see each other only during the weekend and that year Valentine’s day was falling, obviously, in the middle of the week. I was, at that time, going to the gym twice a week and my BF told me he was not able to come back to celebrate and we planned to do it together on the next saturday.
I came back from the gym, I was sweaty, dirty, tired, and he was in my room, presenting himself in a suit with a tie (he never ever worn a tie ever!) and he booked our preferred restaurant in the city. I then discovered that he agreed everything with my parents and they kept the secret for an entire week and they pushed me to change the gym day.
Of course I had a shower before going out for dinner!

πβοΈβ€οΈA Summer LoveπβοΈβ€οΈ!
Among my first loves I met a girl during the summer holidays, we were teenagers and at the end of the summer I didn't think I'd ever see her again, because she lived 1,200 km from me. Yet after a few months by chance my father had to go on a business trip near her county and I had the opportunity to go with him. I called her as soon as I arrived in town and I gave her a big surprise with a big bouquet of red roses

π½οΈπ₯ A Dinner for 3π½οΈπ₯
One time, my boyfriend decided to celebrate Valentine's day at the restaurant with me and his mum, so that he could also make her happy on this special day. The funny part is that his mom is very talkative but doesn't speak English. So the two of them talked during the entire dinner without me understanding anything. Also worth mentioning that she's a bit jealous of me, because I now spend way more time than her with her son.
I wasn't mad or anything, but definitely not going to repeat this experience π

π€π±A Caring Surpriseπ€π±
Some romantic gesture from my partner, when I moved to the Netherlands and was homesick he decided to buy me someone I can take care of and talk to. It was two goldfishes to bright up my days πππ
Unfortunately both fishes did not become very old. Sorry and amen!

πππ₯°A lot of loveπππ₯°!
My girlfriend and I are both quite big suckers for romance I guess.
Thinking about stories to tell my mind wandered off to our first anniversary when I booked a room in an actual castle close to Maastricht (a city she used to live in and which brings fond memories for her) complete with all the works such as chocolate, champagne, flowers, etc.
That was definitely fun and I repeated the idea by booking a room in a mill near Groningen for our third anniversary, that one included a full five course meal with matching wines and the works.
Or maybe our most romantic endeavour to date was the time in Sintra where I rented a horse carriage for the both of us from the old center of town all the way up to the gardens of Palacio de Pena, it was certainly magical to walk around having the feeling it was only just the two of us there and then up through the gardens to this amazingly colourful and beautiful palace. If you haven't seen it yet look it up as this is easily one of the most breathtaking palaces/castles and gardens we have ever visited.
To be honest though, those were all really nice experiences but I think the most romantic thing I do is buy her a pair of earrings on each holiday, I love to see these on her as that way we both have something to remind us of the great times we spent together.
Now with travel options being limited there aren't as many possibilities to do that so this year I had to go for something else. Reminiscing about our last holidays in Barcelona which we really enjoyed, with a bit of luck I managed to find the shop in Barcelona where we bought her earrings and they had a matching ring so I ordered that online to make a nice set. I wish I could have also bought the super tasty croissants filled with mango jam we had there but oh well you can't have it all they say and it was certainly fun to think back about our holidays in Barcelona.
Oh, by the way, speaking about alternative suggestions to celebrate romance, I find Etsy to be great if you're looking for artisan jewelry or quirky stuff and gifts related to your loved ones hobbies/passions or otherwise preparing his or her favourite meal and a nice lengthy massage can definitely go a long way.
My take on it is that the time spent and the memories created together are most important, how big or small the gesture is doesn't really matter, connection is what counts however which way the two of you make it happen that is all up to you.
