In plants, photosynthesis is the process whereby carbon dioxide is
converted into sugar. First, chloroplast in the leaves absorbs sunlight to make ATP, a molecule which stores light energy. Next, ATP captures carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and converts it into carbohydrates, such as sugar. Plants are unique inasmuch as they’re the only organisms that can make their own food.
