Parallel Structure

For our purposes, there are two types of parallelism we need to worry about: parallel structure within sentences, and parallel structure in lists.

For parallel structure in a list, each (leading) item should be similar (i.e. they should all be nouns/adjectives/adverbs, or they should all be gerunds, or they should all be verbs, etc.):
 
Correct:
“Copywriters are proficient in:
  • Writing articles in a wide variety of styles
  • Researching relevant information
  • Following SEO guidelines”
 
Incorrect:
“Copywriters are proficient in:
  • Writing articles in a wide variety of styles
  • Researching relevant information
  • SEO guidelines”
