Imagine you are standing beside some tram tracks. In the distance, you spot a runaway trolley hurtling down the tracks towards five workers who cannot hear it coming. Even if they do spot it, they won’t be able to move out of the way in time. You glance down and see a lever connected to the tracks. You realise that if you pull the lever, the tram will be diverted down a second set of tracks away from the five unsuspecting workers. However, down this side track is one lone worker, just as oblivious as his colleagues.
So, would you pull the lever, leading to one death but saving five?

Pull the lever
Dont pull the lever
Why did/didn't you pull the lever?
Now imagine you're standing on a bridge over tram tracks. This time there is no lever, only a fat man standing infront of you. The trolley is hurdling towards five unsuspecting workers.
You could give the man the slightest push, and he would fall infront of the trolley, but he would die.

So, would you push the man, leading to one death but saving five?

Push
Dont push
What made it different this time?
Imagine again, you're a surgeon. Five patients have just came to your hospital, needing one organ each. One needs a heart, one needs a lung, one needs a liver.. ect.
But you don't have any organs to spare. If you cant get the organs they need, they will die. In the room next door is a healthy man sleeping peacefully. You could take him into the operation room and lend his organs. You will not get ANY legal punishment. The five others would survive, but the man would die.
So, would you sacrifice the healthy man, leading to one death but saving five?
