New Zealand
Forests in the Southern USA, Canada, Estonia and Latvia
France
Norway
Wetland forests in the Southeastern USA are:
Home to many rare and endangered species
One of the most biodiverse forest regions in the world
Being clear-felled by a company called Enviva to burn in power stations like Drax
A vital defence against climate change
Which of these species are threatened by logging to supply Drax's tree burning?
Black bears
Skipper butterflies
Red wolves
Salamanders
Enviva's logging and Drax's tree burning are ...
Destroying precious forests and polluting communities
Harming wildlife, including many rare and endangered species
Making the climate crisis worse
Providing a green and renewable alternative to fossil fuels
How much does Drax receive per day in UK renewable subsidies to burn this wood? (These subsidies are paid for by a surcharge on our energy bills)
£500 per day
£6,000 per day
£1 million per day
Over £2 million per day
Why has Drax been in the news recently?
Drax is planning to expand its tree burning by buying a huge pellet company in Canada called Pinnacle Renewable Energy. These pellets will come from the felling of precious Canadian forests which are home to many rare and endangered species, including caribou.
It has announced it will stop burning trees.
Drax has been fined $2.5 million for air quality violations at its Amite pellet mill in Mississippi which supplies wood pellets to burn in Drax.
A new report has revealed that biodiverse forests in Estonia and Latvia are being logged to supply wood to burn in Drax.
What can we do to help save forests, wildlife, communities & the climate from Drax's tree burning?
Protect and restore existing biodiverse forests, not replace them with monoculture tree plantations
