Exercise I. What are some of the limitations or criticisms you have heard and what are your beliefs about delivering evidenced based interventions. Does this help or hinder your delivery of CBT?
Exercise II: Client 1: Pete 23 believes in social interactions he goes bright red and sweats profusely. Which active methods would you use with Pete? Client 2: Lorraine 54 has a strong image of what would happen if she fainted in public. Which active methods would you use with Lorraine? Client 3: Emily 31 strongly believes that she is a bad mum. Which active methods would you use with Emily?
Exercise III : What useful questions did the therapist use to set up the BE with her client? Did she encourage collaboration? If so how? What might you do differently? What might you include when setting up BEs with the clients you work with?
Exercise IV: Think of all of the therapists you know. Think of an issue or problem you have. Assume you don’t know the therapists personally or professionally. Who would you pick to see? What factors made you pick them? Pick the three most important factors.
Exercise V: Identify how you are in relationships and factors that impact upon the bond. Reflect on your own professional relationships (supervisors, colleagues) What do you value, what brings you closer to the other person? What don’t you like, what makes you angry, withdraw, close off? Now take a few minutes to reflect on these factors and note down how they might impact/ be active or not in your therapy relationships
