What Meeting Role do you take on?

There is a disagreement in your group project and there is obvious tension between two of the group members. Both of them feel like their idea is the best, what would you do?

Tell them both of their ideas are great

Try to get them to not argue and tell them they are getting off task by doing so

Write down the good and bad points of each of their ideas

Try to find a problem with both of their ideas so they can look at them from a different perspective

Double check the rubric to see if one of their ideas follows it more than the other

One of your group members who is a procrastinator always shows up to a weekly group meeting on Tuesday, but he often seems busy with working on random assignments from another class on his laptop and he pretends to participate in the group discussion while everyone else is having a great discussion. How would you deal with this situation?

Bring some snacks to share with him and try to interact him as a team.

Make sure he always has something to do with his team task during the meeting.

Record everything what each member did during the meeting to know if he actually participated.

Initiate to engage in conflict with him whether he is right or wrong in order to find the problem.

Make sure you show him how to follow the directions and the rubric in order to complete the task successfully and professionally.

You’re working with your group and you notice that everyone is distracted. Some seem to be checking the latest tweets while others are discussing the upcoming Basketball Game. The group assignment is due soon, which of the following would most likely be your reaction?

Let everyone take a break and have fun, this is good for the group and will get creative juices flowing

Remind everyone that the assignment due date is close and that they need to focus on the assignment

Check the notes that you have been taking and repeat the last idea that was said (this direct the everyone back to the task)

Question everything the group has done so far and have them go over their ideas to make sure these are the best

You’ve notice that a member in your group is extremely quiet and does not like engage in conversation very much. They are always paying attention, but usually just watching. What would you to help engage that member?

Let the member know you value their ideas and positively encourage them to speak up.

Check in on the member to see how they are doing, and keep them on task even though they aren't discussing with the group

Makes sure the member’s voice is heard by occasionally asking what they think

Try to get her ideas out in order to compare to other ideas and ask questions about it to be clear on her plans

Encourage them to follow the directions in the rubric and ask if they need clarification on anything

You’re working with your group and you realize you read the instructions wrong. You and your team have been working on it for the past hour. What would you do?

Laugh it off and say whoops! Encourage a break and start over.

Suggest that the break should be 2 minutes and stay behind to get started.

While everyone is taking their quick break, you are going through the instructions and trying to see if you can find a way to incorporate what you have written done to what you need to do.
