To whom it may concern, I offer my congratulations. You are a villain. And that likely means you are powerful. Possibly magical, possibly mundane.
You may have superpowers, or you may simply be exceedingly wealthy. It does not matter. In this quiz, we will be determining the METHODS by which you conduct your day-to-day villainy, and in which category of typical antagonist you might find like-minded souls.
Remember, not all villains are created equal. Some are more rare than others.
Flattery will get you everywhere. Please, bring on the quiz.
You're right to pay me such deference. You may continue.
You waste words. Ask me your questions so I can continue my work.
You assume much about me. Historically, that has proven dangerous.
Oh, shut the fuck up and get on with it.
Your first order of business is to establish your base of operations, if you haven't already. From where do you conduct your misdeeds?
Somewhere prominent that speaks to my position of power. To intimidate and inspire awe.
Wherever I can, as long as I have ready access to warm bodies. Be they slaves, supplicants, or food.
Somewhere secluded. To announce one's presence in my line of work would be foolish.
I have no need for a refuge. I go where I please, and visit destruction on those who would stop me.
Somewhere already established and thriving. There is little point in building what has already been built for me.
An underling has failed to complete the task they were assigned. The consequences will not destabilize your efforts to a significant degree, but this is the third time they have failed you in the past month.
Forgive them, but assign them to a less important role in future. Possibly to a humiliating or undesirable task.
Forgive them, but have the underling imprisoned or tortured for their failure.
Slay them, as they are clearly of no use to you.
Slay the underling publicly, as a warning to the others who serve you, and to those who would oppose you.
It is not a matter of course for me to have underlings.
A meteor is heading for the earth. The impact will be devastating for miles around the site, but not to the level of an extinction event. Unfortunately, you are currently within the area of the highest predicted devastation.
It hardly matters. I would outlast even a meteor strike one way or another.
This place is valuable, but my life is far more so. I search for a new home.
I can utilize the meteor as a tool. Either to destroy my enemies by altering its path, or by threatening NOT to stop its approach if my demands are not met.
I had a good run. I will attempt an escape, but should I fail, it is fitting I should go out in such a spectacular fashion.
Make efforts to prevent the oncoming disaster. Such meaningless destruction would only harm my plans.
You are a capable villain, but, historically, most have found it useful to have a lieutenant at their side to assist them.
I choose one capable underling and put them in charge of my day-to-day operations, while I make the larger decisions.
A group of underlings to serve me as a hierarchical council of sorts would be useful.
I am all that is required in terms of leadership. The thought of someone even close to being my equal is absurd.
First impressions can be important. When making an entrance, how do you conduct yourself?
If all goes well, no one will ever know I was there.
My introduction is one heralded by screams and the frantic pace of the fearful.
First impressions are unimportant when all know you by reputation to begin with.
They will know me as a friend. Their mistake may prove fatal.
You must dress to impress, even when dealing with your foes. Opulence, splendor, and majesty are all tools, and I will use them to the best of my ability.
When looking back on the careers of villains who approached matters in the same way you do, do you consider your defeat or death to be a likely outcome of your career?
I do.
I do not.
This question tests my patience. You would do well to remember your place, weakling.
A local rival villain has interrupted one of your plans, costing you time and resources that could be better spent elsewhere. They are not so powerful as to be a threat, but they have made it clear that they will actively oppose you from here on.
Find them and slay them. Obliterate their holdings, and salvage what I can from the remains.
Do nothing. They are beneath the notice of someone like me.
Try to reach a diplomatic compromise. If things turn sour, you can always betray them later.
Inform the local authorities of their weaknesses, and let the heroes do my work for me.
This area is not worth contesting. I can always find somewhere else to establish my operations.
Many villains find it helps to be able to walk the streets as a member of the populace in order to attend to more mundane matters. Is this something you think would be possible, if it appealed to you?
I walk among the public as a matter of course already.
I try to avoid the public eye as much as I can.
I am too recognizable to slip through a crowd unnoticed.
I am too recognizable for my presence not to be met with immediate violence or fear.
Occasionally, there may come a time when the forces of good and the forces of evil must join as one in order to survive a threat that puts them both in peril. If such a situation were to arise, how would you respond?
There is no need to act one way or the other. It is likely I can survive the threat on my own without assisting my enemies in the process.
Accept the heroes' help. Any threat that grave is likely more than I can handle alone.
Agree to assist them, but plot to betray the heroes once the threat is dealt with.
Avoid commiting myself one way or the other at first. I would step in to help if they appear to be winning, but otherwise, I flee.
I AM the greater threat.
Machiavelli wrote that "It is better to be feared than to be loved, if one cannot be both."
What trait do you consider to be most important to a successful villainous career?
To be feared.
To be loved.
To be overlooked.
To be integral.
Against most common narrative conventions, the heroes lie at your feet, broken and defeated. They are at your mercy, or lack thereof.
Slaughter them one by one, leaving the most vulnerable one to flee and spread word of your victory.
Slay them all with barely a thought. There are other matters to consider.
Torture is the obvious answer. Though I may settle for the victory itself. Their lives may be spared if I am feeling generous.
They were once my greatest foes. Surely they will make even more powerful allies. Willingness on their part is not required.
