What environmental policy would you like to see?
Enact a Clean Energy Revolution by strengthening our energy sector and creating new environmentally-driven industries to have America lead as a “clean energy superpower”. There should be a net-zero emissions by 2050. Corporate polluters that disproportionately harm minority and low-income groups need to be addressed.
We should withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement and enact the Affordable Clean Energy Rule to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while stimulating economic growth, job creation and energy independence.
What is your view on Immigration?
Undocumented families should not be denied access to America, a nation created by immigrants. They may seek asylum and refugee here. Policies regarding immigration should incorporate effective border screening, end prolonged detention, refund relief and assistance programs, and overall modernize America’s immigration system.
There must be strict immigration laws as a means to protect American communities and jobs. Undocumented people, including children, should be deported and there should not be funded programs to assist them.
What should healthcare look like for Americans?
There should be protection over the Affordable Care Act, a law that prohibits private insurance from denying coverage or charging higher premiums for those with pre-existing conditions. Building upon the ACA allows citizens to choose to buy negotiable plans like Medicare, extends financial assistance so individuals don’t pay past a certain percent of their income and middle class families will receive a larger tax credit leading to overall lower spending on health care.
Remove the Affordable Care Act so that insurance companies competitively drop their prices and increase their service qualities. Government should not control individual’s healthcare plans but can provide a wide range of limited duration, affordable health insurance programs for the public. Drug and opioid abuse is a public health crisis that needs continued combative measures.
Which infrastructure program would you prefer?
Continue with the Rural Infrastructure Program that allocates 80% of the funds to each state’s governor while the other 20% will be sent to states whose applications were accepted for projects through Rural Performance Grants. Governors are allowed the flexibility to choose what projects to use the funds on.
To invest in a program with three goals: to create sound jobs for the middle class, build infrastructure that lasts and reduces greenhouse gas emissions, and engage communities in all areas and of all sizes so none are left behind. To reach the goal of net-zero emissions, we should invest in electric vehicles and kick-start low-carbon transportation technologies.
To what extent should marijuana be legalized, if at all? Should individuals with criminal marijuana convictions be expunged?
Across the board, marijuana should be illegal. I support a plan for 2021 that removes medical marijuana protections from the fiscal budget that allows federal interference by the Department of Justice (end to a rider provision of the STATES act). I support a War on Drugs.
It is up to the states to decide if marijuana should be legalized, whether it be recreational or medical. People with prior records of marijuana convictions should be expunged.
How should our criminal justice system be reformed?
A plan called Strengthening America’s Commitment to Justice focuses on prevention through a $20 billion grant to jump start states to have competitive programs. The US Justice Department must address systemic misconduct that leads to racial, gender and income-based disparities. People should not be imprisoned for drug use; we need to primarily focus on treatment and rehabilitation for drug addicts and not incarceration. The death penalty should be eliminated. Cash bail must be ended along with private prisons, we should not profit off of incarceration.
We need to continually confront and crack-down on organized crime in the US by passing more executive orders. The First Step Act wants to reduce recidivism to connect released individuals with jobs. The death penalty should remain a part of the justice system as should solitary confinement. Cash bail should not be eliminated and neither should privatized prisons.
Are you Pro-Life or Pro-Choice?
Life needs to be protected by defunding aids that assist abortion clinics. States should not be required to fund Planned Parenthood or any abortion clinics. The Hyde Amendment must remain, taxpayer dollars shouldn’t fund abortions.
It is a woman’s right to choose to have an abortion and health insurance should cover contraception. The Hyde Amendment prohibiting states from using federal funding for abortion clinics needs to be repealed.
