It keeps me focused and on track.
It helps bring people together.
When sight-reading, what is your strategy to get through a piece?
I rely on those around me to help me get things right.
I stumble through and sing even if it's wrong.
I try to gather information like key, time signature, and note intervals before we start.
I talk it out with someone near me.

Old pieces with lots of history behind them.
Pieces that require lots of people to create a loud, full sound.
Any piece in a different language.
Pieces with fun and interesting parts.
Your section leader is absent and people look to you to lead the sectional, what do you do?
I help because I've rehearsed most of our pieces on my own already.
I suggest to try and work through it all together, measure by measure.
I ask what we need help on most and fix one problem at a time.
I step up to lead to make sure everyone stays on track, even if I don't really know what I'm doing.

Before a choir concert I am usually...
Going over my music and perfecting my part.
Getting ready with some friends.
Relaxing by myself.
Getting food with all my friends.
You're at a choir social! What are you doing?

I'm with my friends. I tend to stick to people I know.
I'm by the food. I always love eating the food people bring.
One of your friends is anxious before a concert. How do you help?
Try to distract them with jokes or stories.
Ask what it is they're nervous about and try to help them overcome it.
Remind them of how great they've been doing in class and reassure them.
Share your own concerns for the concert and try to show them they're not alone.
What skills are you most proud of?
My ability to practice outside of school.
My sight-reading. Even if I'm not always right, I always try.
My ability to blend with everyone else.
I can lead my section when we're falling behind.
If I could sing any voice part, I would sing...
Soprano. I like the way they float above everyone else and add a final touch to a piece.
Alto. I like their rich sound and how they add something without being too obvious.
Tenor. I respect the difficulty that comes with the part and I like the way they weave into the other parts.
Basses. I want to be the foundation and have everything build up from there.
