A typical weeknight dinner looks like:
Whatever's in the fridge and pantry (usually a hodgepodge of cheese, crackers, pretzels, hummus, leftovers, etc.).
I'm too busy with work or kids so I grab drive-through or I eat off their plate - I just don't cook for myself.
Pizza, Chinese food, a bag of chipsβ€”whatever I'm craving!
I love to cook what tastes good, unique dishes and comfort foods.
Usuallly a lean protein meal with veggies
In my grocery cart, you'll usually find:
Mostly snacks and things for the pantry, plus some essentials like fruit, milk and eggs. I rarely make full meals at home.
Anything Quick! Mostly convenience or frozen foods. Prepackaged and frozen meals.
Whatever I notice on the shelves or I'm craving - it changes depending on my mood.
My cart is full with a mix of fresh produce, meats, pasta's, multi-grain or artisan breads, rice, and maybe some premium ice cream.
A good variety of healthy basic (vegetables, chicken, cheese, nuts, brown rice, whole grains, fresh produce and fruit, etc.).
On weekends, I tend to:
Eat too much or too frequently throughout the day. I'm often snacking on something.
Run errands and be on-the-go during mealtimes, which makes it hard to sit down for a balanced meal.
Weekends are my cheat days! I eat more junk food and have heavier meals than I do during the workweek.
I often have just 2 meals, such as brunch and a fancy dinner. I sometimes overeat because I like to try everything or it tastes so good.
Eat similarly to how I do during the week; maybe I'll go out to dinner once.
I usually grab a snack:
When someone offers me one or there is food in front of me.
When I realize I'm hungry and won't have time for a real meal.
When I'm craving something specific, like chocolate, ice cream or salty pretzels.
When I get the chance to sample something really unique and delicious.
I grab something healthy to keep my energy up between meals or in the evening.
I cook at home:
Rarely. By the time dinner rolls around I'm usually too hungry to think about cooking and I don't have the right ingredients on hand. I end up making a "meal" out of whatever's in the fridge or pantry.
I usually make meals that I can whip up quickly or grab something fast at a drive through.
I cook whatever I am craving. Sometimes it's a real meal, sometimes it could be a plate of french fries or even hot dogs.
I really enjoy cooking if I have quality ingredients on hand and plenty of time to prepare them. Otherwise I'll go out for dinner.
Almost always. I want to ensure I'm cooking and eating healthy meals.
I eat most of my food:
Late at night. I tend to forget to eat during the day unless I'm especially hungry.
I eat most of my food on the go! Mealtimes can vary, so it's different every day.
Whenever I'm hungry. I often have cravings for sweets and carbohydrates.
I try to have a lighter breakfast so I can enjoy a delicious meal later.
Spaced pretty evenly throughout the day.
When it comes to portion sizes:
I typically don't pay much attention as I snack with small amounts throughout the day.
I don't have time to measuring out portions and it can vary from day to day.
It depends on how much I like the food. I eat until my cravings are satisfied.
I typically finish everything on my plate whether I am full or not because I enjoy food and hate to see it go to waste.
I usually have moderate portions and can tell when I am full.
What's your biggest challenge when trying to lose weight?
When food is around me I tend to snack on it, whether I'm hungry or not.
I don't have time or energy to prepare complicated "diet" meals for myself.
I eat healthy for a time and then I get derailed by cravings.
I don't like limiting myself or feeling deprived. I enjoy food.
It's a mystery. I feel like I'm doing all the right things, but the weight isn't coming off.
Fresh produce and vegetables are:
I buy them and they often go bad in my fridge because I wind up eating convenience food or junk instead.
Things I enjoy, but I usually reach for ones that are portable (like a banana).
If I'm in the mood for blueberries, I might eat a whole container. But usually I eat fruit and veggies when it's in something I'm craving.
I try to buy the freshest, best produce available.
I try to eat them at every meal, but usually stick to the same 3 or 4 types.
I eat protein:
If it's around or in front of me, things like pepperoni sticks or cheese
I buy grab-and-go things, like pre-cooked chicken or meat slices.
If there is lots of protein in things I crave or like, then I will eat it - like pizza, burgers, bacon etc.
I love nice cuts of meat and I enjoy cooking them with salads, artisan breads, and delicious sides like pasta or rice.
I sometimes have a protein shake, and I usually have a lean meat at dinner.
I get my fiber each day from:
I don't know how much fiber I really eat each day. It depends on what I'm snacking on.
I try to choose higher fiber convenience foods - like bran bars, but if it's not quick enough, I don't bother.
I don't get a lot of fiber in, most of the foods I love are breads, crackers, or things I am craving.
It depends, I love multi-grain breads and whole wheat pastas and brown rice. But I'm not sure how much fiber is really in that?
I eat a lot of fruits and veggies and I make sure my bread is whole wheat or multigrain.
In the evenings:
I tend to watch TV or Netflix and graze on popcorn or other snacks.
I'm usually on the go and am rarely at home so I typically grab something out of the fridge before I go to bed.
I crave snacks or drinks at night - especially if I see ad an on TV or something triggers a craving.
I love food, it doesn't matter as much what time of day.
I try to watch my snacking at night, so I often eat things like fruit, granola bars, yogurt etc.
I drink alcohol:
If it's there, I will have some - mostly in a social setting. I'm not picky about what it is.
At night if I have a few minutes to myself, I'll enjoy a glass of wine.
I only like fruity or pre-mixed drinks, like mud slides, daiquiries, OR I'm a beer drinker and I like my beer.
I love trying fine wines and spirits, whatever pairs well with the food I'm enjoying.
I'll enjoy a glass of wine or low-calorie drinks.
Sugar is:
Not something I think a lot about, I eat what I like when it's around.
I don't have time to read labels.
My achilles heel! I love all things sweet and salty.
If it's in food I love or it's natural sugar like honey, maple syrup, coconut sugar, agave - then I enjoy it.
I try to limit sugar, and prefer if it's from a natural source.
