As someone learning to swim: Jump into the pool first and think "What's the worst that could happen?"

As someone learning to swim: Stand by the side and watch others display how NOT to swim. Only get in the pool once all possible ways to be safe have been evaluated.

As someone learning to swim: Read up on the structure of a water molecule, and the theory behind how things float. Consider doing a degree in fluid mechanics. Ensure everyone that gets in the pool comes out in one piece before getting in.

As someone learning to swim: Get your hands on an array of devices that are crucial for ensuring you survive learning to swim - think snorkels, various types of floats, flippers and possibly an oxygen tank. Check all are in date and perfect working condition before entering the pool.
