Your answer should be based on the passage: Coffee break in Arabia and America The first coffee break probably took place hundreds of years ago in Bedouin tent on the deserts of Arabia . A caravan stopped on its way westward with merchandise, and a merchant showed his Bedouin host a handful of seeds that, when roasted, and pounded to powder and brewed with water, produced an invigorating black beverage with a persuasive taste. Later ,the small tree that yielded the seeds received the permanent botanical classification of coffee Arabica , and it was from this species that Arabia supplied the entire world with coffee until the end of the 17th century. Middle easterners and Europeans have long known the value of leisure when drinking coffee (or tea) and when eating, but Americans have had to acquire this approach the coffee break as an organized American institution is relatively new .true , there have always been the valiant souls who slip out for coffee at the corner drug store . But as industry has become more and more solicitous of the welfare of the working man and woman , surreptitious disappearances from the office are almost extinct .facts and figures substantiate an increased efficiency and morale among workers ,who have a coffee break in mid-morning or mid –afternoon , and in some lucky instances , both times . The few minutes devoted to leisure and touch of camaraderie with colleagues refresh employees and send them back to work with renewed pep , statistics show. The coffee break has become big business in America where restaurant services move into office buildings to supply personnel with their daily cups of energy .in 1957 in the United States , 27,000,000workers drank 47,000,000 cups of coffee every working day . This represents 70 percent of the employed ; in 1970 an estimated 85 percent enjoyed the coffee break . The growth of the custom in this country can probably be traced to the hurried breakfasts for which Americans are famous .the need for additional nourishment is met later on in the morning in the relaxation of the coffee break . In Arabia , where coffee has not only a sociable place but , in many cases, a ceremonial one ,Americans with the Arabian American oil company are finding special significance in a pleasant custom that originated in the land where they are now living . The coffee break reaches into every phase of life in Arabia .
