Try to reason with the villagers and convince them he is lying

Make the rival wizard apologize in front of the village
Teach him a lesson without the eyes of spectators
You have become an elder wizard and you are asked to receive a student. The boy is talented but undisciplined and does not apply himself from his fields of interest.

The Elder Wizard asks you to participate in a ritual that will be very useful for studies. Before the ritual begins, you notice that he learned part of it from a demon. The ritual seems safe, but the demons are expert liars.
