PhRMA  - Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America - is the primary trade association that represents pharma companies in the US. 
 
Traditionally membership into PhRMA is only eligible for only branded drug manufacturers. Generic manufacturers were not entertained. 
 
Teva, the largest generic drug manufacturer in the world, wanted to join PhRMA. But branded drug manufacturers like Abbvie were vehemently against it. 
 
In July 2016, Teva won the controversial bid to join PhRMA despite protests from branded rivals

A bit of BTG history 
 
BTG has its roots in 2 governmental organizations. 
 
1) The National Research Development Corporation 
2) The National Enterprise Board 
 
In 1981, these 2 bodies merged to form British Technology Group - and in 1992 the group was privatized. 
 
It was only after the privatization that our company became more focused in life sciences. Before privatization, the group was a lot more diverse. 
 
In 1989, The British Technology group sued the US Department of Defense and the Pentagon for infringements of patents on the

On 22nd July 2016, X launched the first pharma trial powered by Apple's ResearchKit
 
The trial will use a custom made iPhone app and the iPhone’s sensors to gather data more frequently and more accurately from patients suffering from Rheumatoid Arthritis. 
 
X’s goal is to engage with patients in a new way that integrates pharma research into the daily lives of patients versus the traditional model that requires patients to travel to their doctors’ offices

In August 2014, the FDA posted it’s largest recall of medical devices. 
 
Under a Class-1 recall, Puerto Rico based Customed Incorporated voluntarily recalled 233 devices for all lots manufactured between Jan 2009 and May 2014. 
 
Class I recalls are the most serious type of recall and involve situations in which there is a reasonable probability that use of these products will cause serious adverse health consequences or death.
