DETECTOR

Used to detect any component other than the carrier gas .
Uses an air phase and high temperature to measure chlorinated compounds
Measures combustible hydrocarbons and hydrogen.
Uses a radioactive beta particles (electron) source to measure the degree of electron capture.
Uses a photomultiplier tube to detect spectral lines of the compounds as they are burned in a flame
Are sensitive primarily to hydrocarbons, and are more sensitive to them than TCD.
A form of thermionic detector where nitrogen and phosphorus alter the work function on a specially coated bead and a resulting current is measured.
Work by allowing gases to diffuse through a porous membrane to an electrode where it is either chemically oxidized or reduced
Use radiation passing through a known volume of gas; energy from the sensor beam is absorbed at certain wavelengths, depending on the properties of the specific gas.
Two Types of column
Contain a finely divided, inert, solid support material coated with liquid stationary phase.
Three types of capillary column
Is coated with a very fine film of liquid stationary phase.
Is lined with a thin layer of solid support on to which liquid phase is adsorbed.
Are strengthened by a polyimide coating.
Valve types
A two-position (load and inject) valve
two-position valve with four, six, or more ports.
Also called a stream selection valve.
I T HOLDS TWO INLETS AND TWO DETECTORS, up to four valves in a heated box.
Most commonly used capillary column
Packed column length and internal diameter
Capillary column length and internal diameter
