Famous Assassinations

Assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald on November 22, 1963, while riding in an open-top motorcade through Dealy Plaza in Dallas, Texas, the 35th President of the US was pronounced dead 30 minutes later. Oswald was killed two days later while in police custody by Jack Ruby.

In April 1865, this 16th President of the US was shot at Ford’s Theater in Washington DC by John Wilkes Booth who himself was killed 12 days later on a Virginia Farm.

A former member of legendary pop group The Beatles, this singer was killed by Mark David Chapman just a few hours after signing an autograph for the gunman.

On April 4, 1968, this African American civil rights leader was gunned down in Memphis outside the Lorraine Motel. His assassin, James Earl Ray fled the US but was arrested at Heathrow Airport in London two months later.

This Muslim African American civil rights leader was shot and killed by Talmadge Hayer and two other members of the Nation of Islam on February 19, 1965 while delivering a speech in Manhattan. He sustained 21 gunshot wounds and was declared dead at the Columbia Presbyterian Hospital.

Assassinated on June 28, 1914 in Sarajevo, this Archduke of Austria’s death was the direct cause of World War 1.
