Why is Four Eyes a significant character.
Although Four Eyes wasn't apart of the story as much as the other characters, he is significant because he supplied Luo and the narrator with books. If the two had never obtained the books from him, then there would be no plot in the book.
Describe Lou's transformation.
In the beginning of the novel, Luo was displayed as a depressed teenager, with little to no hope for a better life. Although his transformation wasn't as clear and dynamic as that of the Little Seamstress, Luo did undergo character development. Over the course of the story Luo began to be one what's known as a hopeless romantic, and he made the Little Sreamstress his main priority. Towards the end of the book, the reader could see the final phase of his transformation, as he drunkenly burnt the books, due to his broken heart. In the end Luo reverted back to his depressed phase.
What time period is the book set in?
There isn't a specified time period, but the book it set during the Chinese Revolution, so the reader can infer that the story takes place in the late 1940's and early 1950's.
