Why was the wall built?

During the early years of the Cold War, West Berlin was a geographical loophole through which thousands of East Germans fled to the Democratic West. In Response, The Communist East German authorities built a wall that totally encircled West Berlin.

The wall was built to stop East and West Berlin from migrating between sides.

The people didn't like each other so they built a wall to keep away from each other.

President John F. Kennedy built the wall to keep peace between the two sides of Berlin.

Why was there graffiti on one side of the wall but not on the other?

The people of East Berlin did not want to put graffiti on the wall.

The East Berlin side was kept blank because people were not permitted to get close enough to the east-side of the wall to paint anything.

If the people on the east-side of the wall got close they would die.

The Soviet Union decided to take down because it was causing to much of a riot.
