Wyoming is a state in the northwest of the United States. It is often called "the cowboy state". Cowboys still live and work Wyoming. They work on cattle ranches and move the cattle from one grazing place to another. It became an American state on July 10th 1890 and it was the 44th state. The Great Plains meet the high Rocky Mountains in Wyoming.
 
The name of the state comes from an old American - Indian word that means "large flat place". In the past a lot of American Indian people lived here: the Crow, Arapaho, Shoshone and Lakota tribes.
 
There are two important national parks in Wyoming: Yellowstone and grand Teton.
 
Winters in Wyoming are very cold and there is a lot of snow. A lot of people go skiing in the beautiful mountains. Summers are usually warm and dry, and thousands of visitors visit the two national parks and go camping.
