magine seeing your child suffering from malaria or pneumonia or tuberculosis.

But it's OK, you think, because you bought medicine to combat the disease from the pharmacy.

Now imagine what it must be like to see your child die nonetheless because the drugs you bought were fake.

That is the brutal reality of the multi-billion dollar global trade in counterfeit drugs.

To combat this scourge of counterfeit drugs, the global Pharma Industry introduced the Serialization project.

In this project, every individual saleable unit of pharmaceutical drugs or medical devices will have a unique identifier (a 2D data matrix code) that can be scanned at any point along the supply chain to verify the product’s authenticity.

All manufacturers of medicinal products must comply to the serialization standards if they want to sell their products.

In UK and most of the EU, the deadline to comply to this directive is
07 February 2017
08 February 2018
09 February 2019
