Interpretação de texto   Eles não usam black-tie (1981) Em 22 de fevereiro de 1958 estreava a primeira montagem de “Eles não usam black-tie” no Teatro de Arena e é surpreendente como, acho chegar ao cinema 23 anos depois, a história não tenha envelhecido nada. Autor do texto, Gianfresco Guarnieri, dava sua chancela à adaptação  do cinema-novista Leo Hirszman ao viver o líder operário Otávio, pai do metalúrgico Tião (Carlos Alberto Ricelli) [...] No início da década de 80, época de grande turbulência social no ABC paulista, Hirszman enxergou nas greves de metalúrgicos – de onde despontara como líder sindical o futuro presidente Lula – o contexto perfeito para reencenar o texto engajado, mas atento às fraquezas do ser humano. Seu Otávio, um homem de tradição na militância política, entra em rota de colisão com o filho, cujo pragmatismo diante da possibilidade de perda do emprego o leva à condição de fura-greve. Embora claramente alinhado como pensamento político de Otávio, o filme procura não vilanizar Tião, mesmo pintando-o como fraco de espírito. Romana, sua mãe, na interpretação internacionalmente aclamada de Fernanda Montenegro (o filme causou sensação e levou o grande prêmio do júri do Festival de Veneza), é o ponto de equilíbrio da trama, e seu olhar compassivo aponta para o real vilão: a tragédia social brasileira.
