Name
Secretary
I would like to pursue my career in Anaesthesiology, and being part of this interest group is essential to my success in this field. I believe that I am qualified for a job as a Secretary because I am organized and a good team player. I believe that I have the ability to coordinate events with students, group members, and faculty members. I also see myself as a good communicator, which is an important element of a good secretary. Last but not least, I am planning on completing board exam (Step 2) before the start of next year so I will have time contributing to this interest group. Thanks for your consideration!
Treasurer
I am the best fit for next year’s AIG treasurer. I have a master’s degree in Applied Biostatistics and Epidemiology where being organized and detail-oriented are essential. My statistics degree demonstrates my aptitude for treasurer; I can successfully allocate AIG funds properly and effectively, while keeping accurate records. If given this opportunity, I will be excited for the chance to serve on the AIG :)
Attending the ASA meeting in San Francisco this year has inspired me to be more proactive in and advocate for our program in anesthesia. I think I would be the perfect fit for the treasurer position. My master’s in applied biostatistics and epidemiology demonstrates that I have an aptitude for working with numbers and I pay great attention to detail. If elected, I would make the AIG proud.
Vice President
I am very interested in the position of vice president. I have always been fascinated by anesthesia and am dedicated to pursue this specialty. I am also passionate about this interest group and hope to encourage other student to pursue anesthesia. Besides my dedication to anesthesia, I also have experience in leading organisations. Previously in college, I was the president/founder of a pediatrics interest group for two years, in which I organised silent auctions, and setting up meetings for students who were interested in applying to medical school. I also developed my mentoring skills via tutoring for several years. I understand being the vice president will require my time and concentration. Because I finished my USMLE Step 1 last December and will finish step 2 in January, I can commit my time into this role. Overall, I hope this role can serve as a platform where I can share my personal growth and enthusiasm, and help me advocate this specialty to other students. Please let me know if you have other questions or if you want more information. Thank you for your time! I am also open to take another position if you think it may fit me better.
I have made valiant efforts in opening up the university of Utah for us. I have made multiple visits and sent various emails not only for myself but for our program as a whole. I am a doer not much of a hey lets meet and say hi kind of guy which is why I think I would be a valuable tool for next years president.
My interest in anesthesia was sparked early on in 3rd year, but this interest evolved into a desire to pursue anesthesia as a specialty after this weekend's conference. I believe my experience having been on the OMSA student body for the past 3 years combined with experience as a high school teacher makes me an ideal candidate to serve on the AIG board. I am well organized and I am comfortable communicating with admin and individuals who have a lot of say in our future. I also have a few ideas to help members of our interest group achieve their goal of matching into anesthesia. For instance I would like to organize different sessions to help my classmates develop interviewing skills, networking skills, and other soft skills that are not emphasized enough on the regular. I also look forward to build up the work that the current leadership has done to elevate our programs reputation and to help us get better residencies.
I believe I'm a good fit for Vice President of the Ochsner AIG. I've previously served in this capacity in another organization during undergrad. I'm capable, organized, responsive in communication, and I'd like to increase our efforts in advocacy: I've been active with LSA/ASA since March and contribute to ASAPAC (and have the pin to prove it!). I'd also like to help plan more collaborative activities with our other local AIGs from Tulane and LSU. Thank you for your consideration!
President
I believe I have a number of key characteristics that would serve me well as president, a few of which are: leadership experience, unwavering enthusiasm for acquiring resources and materializing team requests, relentless need for organization, and genuine passion for helping individuals identify goals early and strategically planning to get the results they desire. Ultimately, effective leadership is grounded on one's ability to receive team input and generate output. Thus, I believe that if I continue to draw from my experience, while maintaining an approachable attitude and exuding positive energy, output generated from 2019 Ochsner's AIG should be one that we are all proud of.
