What are some considerations you have when planning how to spend your summer break?
I don’t really need a fancy holiday, I’m happy taking it slow and enjoying the smaller things in life that I missed out on during the semester.
Anything’s fine, so long as what I’m doing brings the most benefit - or least inconvenience - to everyone involved.
I’d like to clear some things off my bucket list that have been on my mind since school started.
Doesn’t really matter, so long as I can look back on it and feel good about it.
So long as I am actively engaged with whatever I choose to do, I'll feel fulfilled, and hence happy.
What’s a strategy to attain happiness that most resonates with you?
Desire less, be happy with what I have, don’t worry about the past or the future.
I’d take stock of the postulated amount of happiness generated by each of my actions, and decide from there.
Doing the things I want to do.
Living a generally happy life, even if I didn’t attain some of my goals or got to have some of the things I wanted in life.
So long as I feel at ease, somewhat engaged with what I’m doing, and in general, positive about what I’ve done in life, I would count myself as happy.
Your friends invite you out for supper (for the third time this week, and it’s only Tuesday), and you don’t really want to go with them,
I’d probably not go, because suppering excessively might lead to adverse health effects in the future!
I’d probably go, because not going might make me guilty and result in all of them being slightly annoyed with me. I might as well go to make everyone feel happy even if I don’t really want to!
No, I want to stay in Cinnamon to play Smash Bros and that’s what I’ll do.
I’d probably go, because, as Avicii said, these are the days we won’t forget, and I’d probably feel generally happy looking back on this time I spent with my friends even if I didn’t get to play Smash Bros tonight.
Even though I’d be happy to spend time with friends, I’d probably feel anxious about having work waiting for me in my room, and, by extension, probably wouldn’t be able to fully be present at the table in mind and body. Hence, I might not go.
You are currently in an argument with three of your friends because they want to go ice skating but you want to go to the trampoline park instead. The conclusion you reach is:
Not join them because arguing is too stressful and you don’t want to deal with it
Go ice skating because that is what makes the group happiest overall
Go to the trampoline park because that is what you want to do
Anything goes because you can spend time with your friends and you know that that is what you will treasure most in the future
Anything works because as long as you have an activity to do you’ll be happy
Would you rather spend a week completing a painting or a week going out exploring food places around the country?
Paint because eating too much could potentially give you a stomachache
Explore food places because you get to eat so many different types of food and that’s way better than completing one painting
Explore food places because you have been wanting to find good food places for a long time
Paint because the completed painting will give your more satisfaction in the long run whereas you’ll probably forget the taste of the food in the future anyway.
Paint because it feels more natural to you to be able to hide in your room and work on the painting, whereas being out in public to buy feels more chaotic
It has been your childhood dream to be the president of the country. Now that you are older, will you chase your dream and enter politics?
Yes, because being in politics was my dream
No, because politics is chaotic and will disturb the peace of my life
Yes but only if I have good enough plans to make the citizens happier
Anything as long as it is worth it in the long run
Anything because I am confident that whatever I do will make me happy
If I have friends, I have them because...
Because it is pleasant in and of itself
They can help me with things
Because I want company.
Because they will value-add to the course of my entire being.
They bring me peace and tranquility
I would / wouldn't want to start a family because...
WOULDN'T: Children will bring too much trouble.
WOULDN'T: Children bring with them financial debt.
WOULD: I want a family.
WOULD: Children enrich my life entirely.
WOULD: It is something I find fulfilling, even though kids are troublesome!
I would / would not overload this sem because:
No, because I will be content with one major.
No, because it would bring me more stress than is worth the second degree.
Yes because I feel like I want to finish my degree earlier.
Yes because it will bring me better employment prospects.
Yes because I want to challenge myself.
Happiness to me is:
Lying on my bed, enjoying the peace, meditating.
A cost-benefit analysis.
The extent to which I get what I want.
I live life with no regrets.
I'm psychologically healthy.
