On what criteria are students recommended for advanced placement classes?
Test scores, grades, and/or teacher recommendations
All students have access to supports that can help them achieve the test scores needed to get into AP classes.
Portfolio assessments highlighting students strengths and future goals.
We recognize that certain groups of students have not had access, the playing field is not level. Therefore, we actively promote proportional representation of students in all classes, including AP.
How do you promote stakeholder participation in your school community?
All are invited, some are more active than other
All are invited to join, opportunities are created to reach as many stakeholders as possible (time changes, food, childcare, etc.)
Actively promote participation of any marginalized groups because we need their voices to be heard, including translation services provided
Administration meets with school board once a month
According to teachers in your school district, what is the cultural 'norm' regarding teaching and learning?
All students can learn, but only when they are given culturally responsive resources and supports
All students can learn, but some have difficulty because of a lack of support at home
All students can learn because teachers do not view students’ background characteristics as impacting the teaching and learning process
All students can learn, but first we have to change our Eurocentric educational system because it was not created to provide opportunities to all students
How is your school community producing or disrupting inequities related to sex, gender expression, and sexuality?
We include conversations and education regarding these topics within the curriculum. Students have created clubs and organizations to further support one another.
Our students are all supported equally. All students can succeed through their means of self-efficacy.
Our focus is on academic achievement and not personal matters
We provide spaces for students to discuss challenges and feel supported through the spectrum of identities. Bathrooms are gender neutral.
