That's a great question we get asked all the time. They are called heat deflectors, which are cast iron, and they are a great feature that help prevent flare ups, allow indirect cooking and more evenly distribute heat.
How do I take out the “Heat Deflectors” or “Smoke Plates" while using the BBQ?
You don't.
They're really hot so I wouldn't recommend it.
Great question. The heat deflectors can be extremely hot even hours after usage. Moving the heat plates is only recommended before or hours after usage once they have cooled.

The interior of this grill is actually baked on porcelain enamel for increased durability and protection. The black flakes are remnants of your previous cooks.
How do I empty the ash in the bottom of my grill?
There's easy to use clips at the bottom of the grill.
